Early Intervention Program (EIP), Intervention and Reading Recovery
EIP/ Intervention Mrs. Harbin and Mrs. Perkins
If a student is struggling in the classroom the classroom teacher may reccomend more support through the EIP program. This offers a smaller class size and more assistance.
Reading Recovery Mrs. Goetz
Reading Recovery is an early intervention program that helps children learn before they fail. This program targets first grade students who are at risk for failure. Children in the program receive 30-minute, one on one lessons each day from a highly trained teacher. Children are tested in the fall and mid year to determine if they qualify for the program.
Qualifications for the EIP program
If a child scores a 1 on the CRCT in math or reading, he or she is automatically placed into an EIP class. This is a state mandated law.
If a student did not take the CRCT and his/her teacher feels the child is not completing average classroom work, the teacher can fill out a checklist. The student can then qualify for EIP.
Qualifications for Intervention
Students have passed the CRCT but the teacher still feels the child may not be performing average classroom work.
Students may be new to the country and a smaller class size may offer more assistance to becoming more proficient in the English language.
English Language Learners and Intervention
Student grades may be modified until the child is proficient in the English language.
Students can be served in ELL and EIP/Intervention in both programs to provide a successful learning environment.
